Celebrating Ramadan (2 of 5) Yes, We Are Ready
By the second week of Ramadan, something beautiful begins to settle into our hearts. The rhythm of fasting becomes familiar, and the central place of the Qur’an in our lives becomes clearer. From the very first nights of Taraweeh, you can feel the blessing of the Qur’an pouring into your soul. The atmosphere created by standing together—listening to a beautiful recitation, hearing reminders, and sharing in the collective energy of worship—is deeply uplifting. It nourishes the spirit in a way that is hard to describe but easy to feel.
As our bodies and souls move in harmony with this act of worship, it is important that our conduct follows the same path. Ramadan trains us to restrain our desires for what we normally enjoy—food, drink, smoking, and other habits. Just as importantly, it teaches us to restrain our tongues. This is the month to step away from backbiting, foul language, and unnecessary arguments. The Prophet ﷺ guided us clearly:
“When any one of you is fasting, he should neither indulge in obscene language nor raise his voice in anger. If someone tries to argue or fight with him, let him say: ‘I am fasting.’” (Ṣaḥīḥ al‑Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
By the second week, these changes begin to show—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The body adjusts, the heart softens, and the soul becomes more receptive to guidance. Insha’Allah, may these transformations continue to grow within us.
May Allah accept our fasting, our prayers, and every sincere effort we make in this blessed month. Ameen.
