Preserving the Spirit of Dhul-Hijjah After Hajj

As the blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah continue, many of us reflect on the tremendous opportunities for worship that Allah ﷻ granted during the first ten days of this sacred month. These days are among the most beloved days to Allah, and countless Muslims around the world spent them in prayer, fasting, dhikr, charity, and devotion.

While the first ten days have passed, our commitment to Allah should not end with them. The days that follow—including the Days of Tashreeq (the 11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah)—remain blessed days filled with opportunities to earn Allah’s pleasure.

Allah ﷻ reminds us:

“And remember Allah during the appointed days.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:203)

The Prophet ﷺ described the Days of Tashreeq as:

“Days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah.”

(Sahih Muslim)

One of the greatest signs that a good deed has been accepted is that it leads to more good deeds afterward. Therefore, we should strive to preserve the spiritual momentum we gained during these blessed days. We can do so by maintaining our daily prayers, attending the masjid regularly, increasing our remembrance of Allah, reciting the Qur’an, and continuing to give in charity and serve others.

Allah ﷻ says:

“Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds—the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.”

(Surah Maryam 19:96)

Charity and service to others are among the most effective ways to maintain our connection with Allah and benefit our communities. Whether helping a neighbor, supporting a charitable cause, volunteering at the masjid, or assisting a family in need, every act of kindness is an investment in our Hereafter.

This week, many of our brothers and sisters who performed Hajj will begin their journey home. They return carrying precious memories, profound lessons, and life-changing spiritual experiences from the sacred lands of Makkah and Madinah. We ask Allah ﷻ to accept their Hajj, forgive their sins, and bless them with steadfastness upon His guidance.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“An accepted Hajj has no reward except Paradise.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

As we congratulate the hujjaj and listen to their stories, let us also renew our own commitment to Allah. Hajj teaches sacrifice, patience, gratitude, humility, and complete reliance upon our Creator—lessons that every Muslim can carry throughout the year, whether they were able to perform Hajj or not.

We pray that Allah accepts the worship of all believers during these blessed days, grants our hujjaj a Hajj Mabroor, and blesses each of us with the opportunity to visit His Sacred House again and again.

Ameen.
