ʿĀshūrā’: A Day of Gratitude, Reflection, and Renewal

Today, as Muslims around the world observe the blessed day of ʿĀshūrā’, we ask Allah ﷻ to accept the worship of all those who are fasting and to grant every believer His forgiveness, mercy, and countless blessings.

ʿĀshūrā’ holds a special place in the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. When he arrived in Madinah, he found the Jews fasting on this day in gratitude to Allah for saving Prophet Mūsā (ʿalayhi al-salām) and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh. The Prophet ﷺ said, "We have more right to Mūsā than they do," and he fasted this day and encouraged his Companions to do the same. He also taught that fasting on ʿĀshūrā’ is a means by which Allah forgives the minor sins of the previous year.

Whether you are fasting today or were unable to do so, the lessons of ʿĀshūrā’ remain with us. It is a reminder that Allah grants relief after hardship, victory after patience, and mercy to those who place their trust in Him. It is also an opportunity to renew our repentance, increase our gratitude, and strengthen our commitment to living by the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

As this blessed day comes to a close, let us not allow its spirit to end with it. Continue your remembrance of Allah, your recitation of the Qur'an, your charity, and your acts of kindness throughout the year. The greatest success is not found in a single day of worship, but in a lifetime of sincere devotion.

May Allah accept the fasting of those who observed today, forgive our shortcomings, unite our hearts upon the truth, and bless our community with faith, guidance, and steadfastness. Āmeen.
