Celebrating Ramadan (4 of 5): Laylat al-Qadr and the Power of Giving

As we enter the final days of this blessed month, only a short time remains. Yet within these remaining nights lies a treasure beyond measure. Allah has placed in the last ten nights a night unlike any other: Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree.

Allah dedicates an entire surah to this night, Surah al-Qadr, where He says: “Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months” (Qur’an 97:3). A thousand months is more than 84 years, a full lifetime of worship. Any act of goodness performed on this night is multiplied beyond anything we can imagine.

Our mother Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) once asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say?” He replied: “Say: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbu al-‘afwa fa‘fu ‘anni.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 3513)

Translation: “O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, You love to forgive, so forgive me.”

This simple prayer captures the essence of the night: forgiveness, mercy, and returning to Allah with sincerity.

One of the miracles of Laylat al-Qadr is that even the smallest deeds become magnified. Imagine donating five dollars, praying two rak‘ahs, or reciting Surah al-Ikhlas three times. If these coincide with Laylat al-Qadr, it is as if you performed them every day for 84 years. This is Allah’s generosity.

As we approach the end of Ramadan 2026, we encourage everyone to support their Islamic Center. Your contributions strengthen daily prayers, Qur’an classes, community services, youth programs, Ramadan iftars, and the maintenance of the House of Allah. Every donation in these nights may be written as a lifetime of giving.

May Allah bless you, forgive you, and shower His mercy upon you. May He allow us to witness Laylat al-Qadr, accept our worship, and write us among those freed from the Fire. May He accept every donation, every prayer, and every sincere intention. Ameen.
