Hajj 1447 / 2026 (2 of 5)
The Wisdom of Hajj
Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, is a journey filled with meaning, purpose, and spiritual depth. Like every act of worship, it shapes the heart of the believer and strengthens the bond between the servant and the Creator. At the center of Hajj is the profound concept of Tawheed—the oneness of Allah and the believer’s complete devotion to Him alone.
The story of Hajj takes us back to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismaeel (AS), who built the House of Allah with sincerity and obedience. Allah says: “And [mention] when Ibrahim raised the foundations of the House with Ismaeel, [saying], ‘Our Lord, accept this from us.’” (Qur’an 2:127). Ibrahim (AS) was the leader of pure monotheism, the Imam of Tawheed. After completing the Kaaba, Allah commanded him to call humanity to worship: “Proclaim the Hajj to the people; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel from every distant path.” (Qur’an 22:27).
Ibrahim (AS) wondered how anyone would hear him in an empty desert, but Allah reassured him: “You do your part, and I will deliver the call to the hearts of the believers.” From that moment until today, the call of Tawheed has reached every corner of the world, carried by hearts that respond to Allah’s invitation.
This message is beautifully summarized in Surah Al‑Ikhlas: “Say: He is Allah, One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, and there is none comparable to Him.” (Qur’an 112:1–4). Hajj becomes a living expression of this truth, a renewal of the believer’s commitment to worship Allah alone.
Another wisdom of Hajj is the unity it creates among the Ummah. Allah gathers people from every nation, language, and background and brings them together in one place, in one state, with one purpose. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Hajj wipes out whatever sins came before it.” (Sahih Muslim), reminding us that this journey is both a purification and a rebirth.
Pilgrims begin from the same Miqaat points, wear the same simple garment of Ihram, and recite the same call: “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk.” They move together through the same sacred locations—Makkah, Mina, Arafah, Muzdalifah, back to Mina, and finally to the Kaaba. This shared journey erases differences and reminds believers that they are one community, united in faith and gratitude.
Every step of Hajj is designed to bring hearts closer to Allah and closer to one another. It teaches humility, patience, equality, and remembrance. It reminds us that life itself is a journey toward Allah, and that true success lies in answering His call with sincerity.
May Allah unite our hearts, strengthen our faith, and grant us the honor of performing Umrah and Hajj again and again. Ameen.
